Shapes Have Fangs - Dinner in the Dark (2011)

Austin, TX is a psych-center for pleasing psych-otic people and pleasing psych-edelic music. New group Shapes Have Fangs will release their debut album Dinner in the Dark through The Black Angels' Reverberation Appreciation Society. Their music is most easily classified as distorted fuzzed-out desert rock. Through their tunes, they sound like peers of The Black Angels with a similar vision, especially with regards to The Black Angels' latest and most upbeat offering Phosphene Dream. The video below for "The Desert (Has a Place for You)", directed by Oswald James, is a journey into their sun-scorched musical road trip. UNKLE - Natural Selection (feat. The Black Angels)

Well...this album comes out in May. But an exclusive single was released digitally a couple of days ago. It's available free here and you can stream it below as well. The single is called "Natural Selection" and features vocals and musical contributions from The Black Angels. Less intense/dense than most of The Black Angels' material, UNKLE's track is a chill psychedelectric meshing of their two worlds -- electronica & psychedelic rock -- that seem to be working in tandem these days. Also of note, future plans between The Black Angels and Roky Erickson of The Velvet Underground are currently in the works. Oh yea..some other tracks on UNKLE's upcoming release feature Sleepy Sun, Mark Lanegan, amongst other folks. Can't wait for the Sleepy Sun collaboration.

Thick fuzz-drenched guitar/bass and drumbeats that pummel you riff after riff. Time to spread this on that sandwich meant to eat while listening to your very loud turn-to-11 playlist and take it on a road-picnic across Texas' vast open prairies, past the dry New Mexican Mountains, through the deserts of Arizona, and as you approach the Grand Canyon...turn it up even higher as you drive off the cliff into another cliff because you are blind from tears after becoming mute from screaming so loud from going deaf.
